04 F-250 6.0l ?'s before I buy

Hey guys first off I am new to the web site and I am looking into buying a 04 f250 6.0 with 120,xxx miles on it i have patiently been waiting to get into a diesel and the price is right with this one. So i guess what im trying to get at is the 6.0 scares me and i dont know if i should chance it or what to do. Any advice or pointers on things to check and look for or test would be much appreciated!

Hi Dusty,

The 6.0 has gotten a bad name for the common various problems associated with it. Head gasket issues, headbolts, EGR cooler, EGR, high pressure oil pump, turbo and injectors. Once theses items have been taken care of the motor is almost bullet proof. So, if these things have not been fixed on your truck, it is not if they will go it is when. I own an 04 and absolutely love it, now. Now being the key word. These things have all been taken care of$$$. Unless the deal is super sweet, do not buy it. Plan on spending between $10,000 and $15,000 to correct the problems Navistar/Ford created. Good luck
