head gasket dilemma

I have found a truck for sale, its a 94 4 door longbed white good interior, good body for $2K. The owner says that it has a blown head gasket but he does not know if its an IDI or a PSD. What Im wanting to know is A)what caused the engine to blow a head gasket, B) whats it take to replace and C) is it worth it? All questions pertaining to both engines. Thanks

Get a build date-could be either powerstroke, or IDI. Blown headgaskets are caused by all sorts of things-over fueling, over heating, etc, etc. How does he know the headgaskets are blown-could be a bad injector cup, or any number of issues.

The guy says he bought it as a project and has not had time to work on it and the guy he bought it from said it had a bow head gasket. That alone makes me really sceptical(sp) about the truck but If I could get it for say $1K it may be worth it. I have not had time to go look at it but I am tempted it is may be worth it. I have even thought about just making an offer for 1K and rebuilding/swapping motors

I have heard of a couple of the idi's popping head gaskets, I'm not sure how common that was cause that was a little before my time. AKA I was in grade school when the last idi rolled off the assembly line.

I graduated high school the year that they rolled the last 7.3 off the line. Talk about a crappy year.

Build date is 2/9/94 So that means its an IDI

I've been told that the only 94 powerstrokes made had manual transmissions-is it auto or manual?

auto, 4X4 but I wish it was a manual
