E4OD vs. 4R100

How interchangeable are e4od's and 4r100's? I thought you could put a 4r in an OBS and it would work fine, but what about putting an e4 in an SD? Reason i ask, since Nicks OBS was totaled, another buddy of ours wants to put his ATS stage 6 into his SD. I'm not 100% sure the ats is a e4, but if it is, will it work in an SD?

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work but before I did it I would study the wiring diagrams from both trucks to make sure all the wires are in the same connector positions.

well the only logic i have is if there wasnt a reason for a name change on a trans that looks similar.... why not put the e4od in from factory? theres something different somewhere to have to require a name change.

plus i was going by what i heard from past threads long time ago.

Better internal parts. I know the cases are the same, or damn near the same enough to call it the same.

You would need to pull the trans apart and swap parts. The E4OD is missing a few sensors needed for the SD. You can't run at least one of the sensors without pulling the whole thing apart and doing some major work.

So it's a definite no go? How major is the work? Something a regular joe with regular tools and a decent amount of mechanical ability can do?
