Noisy clutch help
Hey guys, I own a '00 PSD Dually with 6 speed manual tranny. After towing with it the clutch will make a sqwaking sound and is diffucult to release smoothly. It makes no noise if I don't tow with it. Has any one else experienced this? I've been told its the fingers on the pressure plate and need to replace the clutch? Are there any other items I should look for?
Thanks in advance for the help. Keith |

My '00 powerstroke dually manual is in the shop right now. It is due to what can only be explained as two "squeak squeak" when leaving from a dead stop in normal street driving. I was told it could and probably is related to the throwout bearing and rod associated with it. The part is only like $85, but....it cost me $350 in labor to get to it(pull and reinstall the trans). I am HOPING that it's just the throw out bearing, and not the clutch/flywheel/PP assembly related as well. I can say that i am prepared if the clutch is bad, as Discount Diesel performance parts gave me a great price on a South Bend clutch setup if/when the clutch needs replacement.

Yeah...DPP is getting me a SouthBend FE as well. My LUK started slipping last week and I've had some trouble getting the $$$ for the SBC. Hopefully I'll have it by Friday so I can install it on Fri/Sat/Sun.
$350 is cheap labor for pulling the tranny. I was quoted $800 locally for the clutch install. That did NOT make me happy! Hope your's goes better than mine is. LOL |

Yea, he is an old Drag racing friend, so i think he is cutting a little off. Anyways, I am almost hoping the clutch/pp is a little worn out, as id rather just "get it over with", ya know?! I mean us 6 speed guys, its just "replace the throw out bearing with a newer model, put in a south bend clutch, and never worry about tranny issues again"....Well.....i hope anyways, haha

Yeah...me too. I hope I NEVER have to repace the clutch again! This is my 2nd clutch in 2 years!!! Of course....I made the mistake of replacing the stock clutch with a crappy LUK to save some green...and now I'm paying for it. I should have dropped the $$$ on the SBC the first time!

Yep,
I learned that lesson drag racing a m6 car. You're better off dumping the extra $$ now, then spending 2x $$$ later, haha |
