Signature Size??

I wasn't sure where to put this. But here goes....

I can't help but notice several members here have gigantic sigs. So big that often they take up an entire screen. You know it's big when one sig takes up you entire 25" monitor.

Anyways, I figured on a site of this size server space and performance would be at a premium. Massive sig pics posted multiple times in one thread has got to be killing bandwidth.

I am idlely curious what the reasoning is for letting the sigs be so large. Is it a cultural thing on this board? Really, I'm looking for honest answers. By no means am I trying to start a pissing match. I must be missing something though?

Doesn't kill bandwidth if it is hosted at another site. lol

They should put a maximum height on sigs.

Exactly if the pics arent hosted here it has no effect on server space.

Also we do have sig size limits. But they are character based.

We also have sig pic size limits but unless the pic is loaded on the org server the size limits have no effect.


Theres a simple solution if you dont like sigs turn em off

I guess I didn't take that into consideration. My mind was stuck in the "old days" when most sites I frequented hosted most of the pics.

It would be tough to glean much relevant info in quite a few cases if i were to turn off sigs. People put alot of relevant info there I wouldn't want to miss, albeit strung out for a couple pages sometimes.

Like I said, I asked out of idle curiosity.

It should be possible, a few other forums do it by changing the width & height parameters in the tag to the max allowed if the pic is larger then allowed.

My internet is slow where i am at and sometimes it takes a while to load a page because all the sig. pics! not bad enough to make me stop reading though!
