Test Drive, What should I look for?
Ok here it is guys, Tomorrow I am going to look at 4 trucks at 2 dealerships.
#1 2008 F250 Super cab short box xlt 122k km or (80K Miles) #2 2008 F350 SRW Crew cab short box lariat 140k km or (90ishk Miles) #3 2007 Chevy 2500hd crew cab short box LT 150k km or (95ishK Miles) #4 2006 F250 Crew Cab short box XLT 117k km or (under 80k Miles) What should I be looking for for each truck? Is there anything that will tell me I should run? I Am new to diesel and I would love some feedback to help me look for issues on these trucks is there one that stands out above the rest? What price range should I be in? Never owned a diesel or a ford so this could get interesting I will post up what I think tomorrow after I drive them! Hope I can get some helpful input, Thanks! |

First thing to do.... erase #3 from the list
![]() I would first and foremost ask for a carfax on each one to see what the history of the truck is. Find out if the 08's are "Job 1 08's" or not. What I like to do is pull every dipstick there is under the hood, this will tell you if the dealer actually went through the truck and gives a damn about selling a maintained truck or not. Pay attention to the carfax on the 06 and see if it has a history of egr coolers/head gaskets/ oil cooler issues. Good luck and let us know what you end up with |

Thanks I will be sure to check the one dealer said both had carproof on them I have yet to talk to the other guy, and as far as taking away #3 I need to give it a whirl. I am a chevy guy and I live 20 mins from the GM power train plant so this area if you don't drive chevy you get chirped (Not the only reason I would buy one). I have been in my buddies fords and the ones at work and they are awesome and look way better so I likely will make the move unless I drive the Dmax and fall head over heels in love I haven't been in one with the new body/interior.

Well the results are in I have fallen I'n love with the 6.4s. The chevy rattled inside, and seemed a tad light duty compared the fords. The interior on the 06 was nice but the 6.4s were so much nicer. They were job 1s but had rad replacement and had been reflashed I think I am going to buy the lariat it is very reasonably priced at 19k and I have fallen for it!
