The powerstroke is a V-8 where the cummins is an inline engine. I think that the cat engines are inline also but I am not sure.

The powerstrokes injectors are hydralically actuated with motor oil via a high pressure oil pump. Where the cummins is common rail. Of course it's a V8 and backed by a much better truck

Common rail has potential for much more HP and is much less expensive to mod, But hopefully we will see common rail conversions for the 7.3 and 6.0 in the near future

Hope this helps
Shawn

The HEUI Injector design was originated by CAT. "technically" haha the powerstroke is a "common rail" because each bank is fed fuel by a "common" fuel supply passage in the head. HAHA, I like stirring the pot. HEHE

in 94 is when the powerstroke actually come out but they just called it a turbo diesel because they had not come up with a name. in 95 they called it a powerstroke diesel. International built it and ford put a name on it.
