Can you say BUSTED?~?~
Well today i was cruising home from work, and what'ya know, DOT is pulling diesels (they had about 30 trucks lined up, 25 or so being cement trucks from a local company). Well sure enough i get flagged in. They dipped me and i was clean and let go, but thats exactly what i didnt do. Being the nosy rosie i am i walked up to one of the idle officers and asked how many they got. His reply baffled me, "Well Menuez is up to $35,000 in fines and climbing, heh its only 4:00 and were here till 10 or so tonight". Well word on the street is, Every single Menuez truck (the local cement/stone company) was running straight off-road diesel. A BIG no-no around here, and they're now paying over $100,000 in fines for it. Almost makes me happy to see em' stick it to the man.
You dont know how tempting it is when sitting at the pump and watching it turn over $90 to throw some of the 250 gallons of offroad diesel in my bed tank (which we use in the farm equipment only) in with the mix. Just thought id share with y'all and seems anymore you WONT get away with it. |

that sucks, if they were passing savings over to the customer well at least it benefited everyone, but i'm sure the diesel savings went straight to their bottom line!

well that is what happens when you dont follow the rules. i say they got what came to them, trying to get out of buying taxed fuel. what a bunch of idiots!

It brings a smile to my face to see these guys busted. They think they rule the road (i live on the same road as the company) around here, and i love being in one of the Freightliners and passing them. Seeing Cement trucks swerve into ditches is fun! (safely ofc)

Don't they have to have probable cause to dip your tank? Like seeing you at the Off-Road Diesel pump or getting a tip that you are running ORD? Though I'm not one to advocate running ORD in your Personnal truck....but I think them setting up a "trap" like that is a violation of some right.
I was at the Coop back home right after I bought my truck and I got pulled over in the parking lot (I was no where NEAR the ORD pumps, or even getting fuel for that matter...more like dog food), and I refused to get dipped. They had no cause to dip it. He said they would get a court order...I said , "go get it...I'll wait." They gave me a little bit of a run around and let me know that they were doing random checks. "OK...have a good one!" |

I've heard SC checks some,no probable cause is needed, same as checking log books, safety inspections, etc. If your behind the wheel of any commercial vehicle, it's probable cause.
Drive an RV and have 2 trailers behind it, the DOT could give a **** what you do.
