Oil and filter advice request.
I snooped around on the website, and I've found good info on the cam position sensor and air filters. But, I need to know what are good choices for oil, oil filters, and fuel filters. I plan on moderate driving, and I'll change the oil about every 3000-3500 miles. What is a good choice for oil and oil filters?
What's the recommended fuel filter change interval? What brand to buy? Thanks in advance. John T. |

shell rotela is a popular oil and many swear by the stock motorcraft filters or wix.
the best advice is reg. maint., the motor will outlast the body. stick with the stock air filters too, diesels love "clean" air. air filters original thread from powerstrokeforum.com |

rotella isnt a bad oil, but if you are gonna do regular changes like you say......every 3-4k.....i would just stick with good old motocraft. filters and oil are availabe at your ford dealer, walmart, and autozone........Marc

I did my first oil change about a month ago. Went to the dealer for the stuff and they sold me 4 gals. of shell rotella. Since then found the rotella at wal-mart, sam's, & autozone. Found the motorcraft filter at advance auto.

I used Shell Rotella for the longest time, but seeing as I can get CAT Synthetic DEO (made by Mobil) cheaper, I'll be switching with the next oil change.
Between Rotella, Chevron Delo and Mobil, you'll do just fine. One thing that I have heard almost unanimously, avoid Fram filters like the plague!!! Check out this site for all your oil & filter questions: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi |

I am using Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40 and Mobile1 filter bought for a good price at auto zone.
Here is an article on oil filters I found quite interesting. http://www.frankhunt.com/FRANK/corve...ilfilters.html read the sub articles also. Glenn Last edited by Glenn M; 05-21-2006 at 06:44 AM. |

I use Shell Rotella 15w40, top of the line Wix oil filter, Wix heavy equipment air filter (i did the high flow mod) and a Motorcraft fuel filter cause i understand the newer Wix fuel filters don't have a long enough peg to open the fuel inlet window all the way
I'd love to use synthetic oil like i do in my gasoline engines, but since these 7.3 diesels seem to go 300,000 on dino oil pretty commonly and they use 4 gal of oil per change i can't justify the expense at this point |
