99-03 7.3 diesel have the 4r100
03-10 6.0 and 6.4 have the 5r110 2011+ have the 6r140 The 5r110 are pretty stout transmissions and as long as you have custom tunes(which include custom tranny tuning) then you won't have any problems. I have seen 450hp on a 6.0 with stock tranny and around 550hp on a 6.4 with stock tranny but anytime you are putting that much power to them, your tranny is living on borrowed time. I'm not saying that if you push that much power you will blow it up. You may run that much power and never have a hiccup. I pushed about 420-430 in my 6.0 on a stock tranny for over 50k miles and never had a problem. |

I did the same on my Duramax never had a problem I got the trans built because I wanted to take it to the next level. now on tuners that tune the transmission would that be the spartan? I am new to ford applications I am well aware of custom tuning as I do run EFI live on my truck. From the research I have done it looks like the 6.4 is the most reliable and powerful but how much money do you have to dump in it to get true strong safe power out of it

If you are going to get a 6.4 then I would get either Spartan, H&S, or SCT Livewire with Innovative or KEM tunes. All of these produce good power levels. These setups can run from 1k to 2k depeding on which tuner, exhaust, and intake. Personally I'm running the spartan with an S&B intake and MBRP 4in straight pipe duals. I'm going to try out some of KEMs tunes because I have heard good things about them.

Yeah I can tell by your sig that you like to do things right. The 6.4 is pretty stout but like any engine it may have some problems (but nothing like the 6.0) The only truck I would stay away from is a Job 1 which are the early built 08s. They are still good trucks but it seems like you hear of more problems from them. Now that i've said that, there are also guys on here with Job 1s that have had them tuned for many thousands of miles with no problems. If you find a 6.4 that you like, get the VIN number and have someone run an OASIS report for you. That will tell you what work has been done on it by the dealership.
Now back to the performance side of things. The tuner is pretty much up to you. I have heard good things about H&S and the Livewire with custom tunes. I can personally say that i'm happy with Spartan. For exhaust I would recommend a 4in downpipe into a 5in down pipe back straight pipe(or you can run a muffler on it, its purely a sound thing). Now for intake, I like my S&B but AFE makes a great product. There are vendors on here that will make you a good deal on a package. I have heard good things about rudy's diesel performance but I personally deal with Trey at cowboydiesel.com. He is getting his business up and running but he has great communication, fast shipping, and good prices. |

What is the closest thing to efi live for ford I really don't need any deals because I am a dealer for duramax but I am looking to expand which is why I want this new truck

There is nothing really like efi for ford. I'm assuming you are talking about being able to change parameters yourself. The closest I think you will be able to get to efi is having someone like Eric at Innovative or Mike at KEM build you some custom tunes.

so can you load tunes yourself and is there a way to switch tunes on the fly
