Common Rail 7.3L???
OK, as I have been on leave for the last 2 weeks and have only been on the site a few times since the last week of June; I've been seeing a few posts with a one liner about a possible common rail 7.3L PSD in the works.
Anyone with any info on this cough it up. (Unless it's 'privilaged' info and copywrite protected info.) A few questions I have about this are: 1. What is this going to do for those with Big Oil? 2. Are they going to be using the Cummins Injection pumps or similar set up? 3. What kind of $$$ are we talking about? 4. What about injectors? Same aftermarket injectors a lot are already running? 5. What is the lead time (approximate)? If I'm looking into getting Big Oil and Injectors, am I wasting my $$$ vise waiting? 6. Who all is working on the conversion kit? (Are the reputable companies or are they going to be a fly-by-night place working out of a home garage?) 7. Is this going to be something that I can do in my driveway, or am I going to have to take it to someone to have it installed? Thanks those of you with the answers. |

my question on this would be: Is there an advantage to common rail, such as can less go wrong etc, as I understood the comments I read so far that this would be getting rid of the HPOP, am I correct in this deduction. will this give me the same effect as big oil without the upgraded stuff such as injectors. et al??

i'd have to see it to belive it, wouldn't you have to change out the whole top of the block for that to work

Don't know a whole lot on the technical aspect, but I safely assume it will get rid of everything that deals with how our injectors work (including them as well) and be similar to the CR 5.9 Cummins fuel injection?
That means to me, wouldn't we need bigtime tuning/computer adjustments along with all the "hardware"? Sounds complicated for a "bolt on" but I guess we'll have to wait and see? |

While this COULD have the potential I don't believe it's going to burst the 7.3 past 800 HP simply because the bottom end just isn't holding up!
