according to wikipedia, A high number of warranty claims (US$50,000,000 in two years) caused Ford to discontinue their contract with Navistar.

i did not realize that they had that many problems with it. they also paid navistar 70,000,000 to end contract with early..

that just said they bought out of the V-6 (the low cab foreward twin turbo v-6 diesel) contract.....and the 6.4 is an international motor.....from my understanding.......Marc

Ford considered Navistar rival, Cummins, before deciding to design this new Diesel V6, now known as the DT17, in-house."

ford ended the contract for the V-6 psd.

so ford is now going to be making their own diesel engines!? the DT prefix of this DT17 motor doesn't have anything to do with Detroit Diesel?
this contract stuff is so ridiculous...they should pick someone else...how about caterpillar?

ford is going to build thier V-6 motor(diesel) in house....the new 6.4 is an international built motor according to everything ive heard and seen that is good info....in fact the one thread on here that had a bunch of info off of a website was saying it was international built.......Marc

Actually Ford already makes their own diesel engines in Europe - Lion V6 and Lion V8. Ford was actually looking to bring over a variant of their Lion V8 for the F-150 that was a 4.4L V8. Caterpillar won't go anywhere near the "automotive" market (and they are very smart for it).
