Help with 01 250 purchase

Hello Im looking at a 2001 f-250 extended cab 4x4 with a 7.3 Its got 170k miles. Its pretty basic with cloth interior and manual locks and windows. Runs great. Only issues are a couple spots of surface rust over the rear wheel wells. I can get it for 7900 out the door. Is this a good price?

I agree. Price is great if truck is any good. Check it out real good. Auto? Pay close attention to the 4R100 tranny. Easy $2500 waiting to be spent!

Search on this site (not easy) for threads about purchasing a Super Duty. There have been many over the years. I'll look too.......

First welcome to the ORG!
Second, don't rush into buying a truck. I looked for 9 months for one before I found one that I was happy with. As Hank already told you, definitely pay attention to the transmission.
See if it was ever modified with anything. If so, did they use a monitor to make sure their temps didn't get to high?
Check the oil, see if they did good maintanence.
Just look it over, was it well taken care of?
Just think about other expenses for the truck...does it need tires, is the windshield cracked...etc.

I paid $9,000 for an early 99 with 186,000miles about 6 months ago. Of course it was already modded out, VERY well taken care of, oil just changed, leather seats, Short Bed, 4x4, crew cab(4 door). I found some cheaper, but they were total piles of trash.

Truck looks ok may be a little too rough for me. didnt realize the rust was extensive as it was. the rear mount for the step bar on the drivers side is rusted off. Overall was pretty rusty underneath. It looked like the rear diff and trans pan had small leaks. The belt had broke while driving at one point as indicated by the tear in the hood liner. The trans fluid was a little dark aswell. Damn I knew it was too good to be true. Still looking...
