2 stroke engine oil

I had a guy tell me that you could pour a 16 oz. bottle of two stroke enginge oil in your gas tank each fill up and that it was better for the engine than diesel kleen or any other additive? Anyone have any thoughts or answers to this.

They mileage tested the 2-stoke oil and two other additives in the recent Diesel Power Magazine. The 2-stroke oil did almost as good mileage wise as the best additive.

Not sure which month, but I was looking at it on the shelf at Walmart about 2 weeks ago. I tried to find the article on-line about a week ago, but I don't think they put it on the website cause they want you to go buy the magazine since that kind of article sparks a lot of interest.

I've heard a few people say they do this because it is cheap and effective, but isn't PS actually more cost effective?

Diesel Kleen ratio is 1oz. per 3 gal. fuel (treats 250 gallons) for $16
Outboard oil is 1oz. per 1 gallon (treats 128 gallons) for $12

Seems Diesel Kleen goes twice as far for $4 more per bottle, making it the cheaper alternative.

What am I missing?

When I picked up my Mobil 1 diesel oil at Wal mart I noticed they had one of those yellow tags on the diesel clean indicating the price was lowered and it was now $12.00 for the 250 gallon bottle.

Here is the fuel additive test in Diesel Power Mag, they used a '97 Powerstroke. They tested the 2-stroke oil at 200:1 ratio which works out to 0.64 oz per gallon.
