Scan Tool/Code reader

OK fellas, I have had my 03 7.3L since Jan, done a few thingsd here and there. A friend had a code reader but it did not read my codes, never displayed anything. So I heard that not all code readers wouel return diesel codes so I was wondering what kind I should buy?

I do almost all my own maint and my wife drives a Ford as well so what should I invest in? And what should I look for that I can buy once and keep for a life time?

Thanks..............

Well I am not sure what all ones will display the codes and such but I know that the old Superchips 1705 (I think) will pull them and I see them on Craigslist for $50 -$75 all the time. Plus you will get some cheap tunes to play with!

The Auto Enginuity is pretty good. I have it and it works on all types of vehicles and does datalogging.

I would look at the Autoenginuity scan tool, it does an excellent job on the 7.3l. it will give you access to all modules, plus it will do pats programming with the ford enhanced software. I'm sure one of the vendors on here sell them.

I agree with Rob. Both Power Hungry performance and ITPDiesel sell the AE software. But you need the enhanced ford bundle to work with the diesels. The software runs about 375 bucks or so
