Hill Country Driving

I drive through hill country daily and am wondering which of these two would obtain better mileage...

1. Accelerating down the hills and coasting about 1/2 - 3/4 up then accelerating.

2. Coasting down the hill then accelerating about 1/4 of the way up.

GENTLY accelerating down the hill and coasting up. But that would be a PITA, constantly varying your speed.
