Not worth the time man. It is easier and cheaper to buy a 4 wheel drive.

Oh by the way fellow michigander, your not to far if you need help wiht your truck give me a hollar.

ive heard that the 2 wheel drives use a frame that is not as stong as 4 wheel drives, this from an old mechanic i used to know when i was a teenager, not sure if there is anything to this or not. just my thoughts.

its been done but its alot more work than you need to do and its expensive

1st you need new front axle
2 new tranny or rebuild with the 4x4 output shaft
3 transfer case
4 two new driveshafts

Also you need to make sure the gear ratio in the rear and in your new front end are the same

i believe i just listed about 7500 to 9500 worth of parts

i would just by the 4x4 to begin with

You can lift it and be lighter than a 4wd and still look good. It is getting harder to tell the difference in a 2wd and 4wd unless it has stickers on yhe side. Of course that's not the case with the straight axle Fords, but I think it would be the way to go.
