unhooking the wastegate.

i wrote on here yesterday about my truck i think i have compressor surge its a 2002. my brother says he dosent think that compressor surge is the problem and im wasting my money on the wicked wheel and ats housing.he says just completeley unhook the wastegate since its not really needed. he says all it does is not let the turbo build boost past a certain amount. He works on heavy equipment and said they had some volvo loaders do the same thing and they made them update with a different wastegate and it was cured. so he tells me just unhook it and it should be fine. I would like to know what you all think i want the problem fixed because im tired of towing and not being able to give it much fuel when hitting a hill.

2002 ford f 350 with banks 4 inch exhaust, afe stage 2 air intake and a edge evolution set on the tow setting.ats ported housing and a wicked wheel with a turbo master adjustable wastegate and a south bend dual friction kevlar and ceramic heay duty towing clutch.

leave the gate hooked up it is what controls the amount of exhaust gas the turbo gets to spin it up to build up the boost. especially at lower rpm and its what keeps a over boost situation from happening but on the 7.3 i do think is adjustable but i dont know how just not that familiar with 7.3 system. the ones to ask are mark and rodslinger. they probably know more since they work on them more. but id leave it hooked up until ya talk to one of them!! if its surging there may be a problem with the waist gate. could be sticking or a busted diaphram, cracked vaccum line?

Actually what the wastegate is for is to open when you overboost at around 25 psi with a stock turbo. Its a safety feature built in ford figures 25 psi is the limit for longevity.I don't think it will cure your surge it will only let you build more boost. You can unhook it without any problems just unhook the air line, but I wouldnt do it unless you have a boost gauge so you can monitor the boost. Also if you overboost you will defuel and set off a code and a light on the dash you need a boost fooler to get around that.
