Truck sits a lot

I have a 2011 6.7 and it sits a lot. I probably put 4-5,000 miles a year on. Most of this, about 4,000 miles, is put on through 3 months of the summer pulling a goose neck trailer (15,000 lbs) every weekend. Is there anything special I need to do with the DEF on this truck to keep it "fresh"? I see some are getting 6,000 miles on a tank of DEF. That would mean I would only add DEF 1 time a year.

Thanks
Chris

I wouldn't be worried about the DEF - shelf life in a sealed container (e.g. your DEF tank) is over a year.

I would be more concerned about accumulated condensation in the oil, etc. I wouldn't wait for the oil minder to replace the oil - I'd do it once a year right before your busy tow season.

I thought I was bad. Purchased my 2011 in sept 2011 and Im just over 16,700 miles. Change my oil every september on my trucks anniv date but like you, most of my driving is from april through oct when we are dragging the toyhauler around and I always wonder if theres anything else I should be doing to keep things fresh.

I do about 4k per month...would like to know where your truck is sitting so I can swap some parts...I'll leave some fresh DEF fluid for you while I'm unbolting parts...fair is fair.

I second what hammong says above...I'd change the oil regardless of mileage every spring and be set.

PM your address when it's convenient for you.

The last 3 trucks I have bought, I get from guys like you that put a bunch of miles on... I know I don't put many miles on them, so I buy a 1-3 year old truck with lots miles on it. When I trade/sell it, it's back to a normal amount of miles for the year truck it is.

Later.
