check coolant addative

What exactly should be checked? Book talks about a coolant test. Is this just an occasional reminder or is it pickung up something that needs to be addressed?

My reminder came on at 14000 miles to check the coolant. I believe that it automatically comes on after so many miles. I took it to the dealer and they did a test strip on it to check some kind of level. There was nothing wrong with my truck or coolant. I think everyone's comes on after a couple of oil changes. I'm sure someone else will come along with the scientific name of the coolant that they check.

Yup quick test strip they check the Coolant with and you are on your way.

Don't skip on the coolant check either. These things have a lot of aluminum parts inside, and the corrosion-inhibitor in the coolant CAN and WILL eventually wear out.

Here's the strips, you can buy a bottle from your dealer if you like, but I think they might do it during your scheduled maintenance as part of the process. The strips do have an expiration date on them, 2 or so years into the future when you buy them.
