Ticking/Slapping Engine Noise

I just noticed a ticking or like a piston slapping noise today from the engine. Does anyone know of any problems like such with these motors? Haven't heard it before. Doesn't sound all too great. '13 with 7k miles.

My 13 is making a very slight/faint "card in the spokes" noise. I wonder if it is because I am getting close to an oil change....

There are some weird noises that come from these engines. From what I understand the VGT opens and closes at idle to keep the vanes clean (unlike the 6.0's). Same goes for the EGR valve.

My oil was changed about 1000 miles ago. I did a highway drive from South houston to the north side back and forth hauling some junk in the bed, nothing overly heavy, and noticed it when i got back in the neighborhood. Was doing it on acceleration up to ~30 mph when i could still hear it.

I have a 2012 with 15k miles on it, mine does not make the noise but I have heard two others that do. Typically after the second or third oil change.

So I heard mine outside my truck today when I went in to get DEF and the AC compressor kicked off and the noise went away. I wonder if it has to do with the AC....

Thanks for the doc above but I have not changed my oil yet and I had seen that doc before. I dont think mine sounds like a type writer but to each their own I guess...

So it sounds like its the same tic the 6.4's have and the same generic response from ford.

My 2013 also has a typerwriter ticking sound intermitently. I had the exact same sound on my 2006 duramax. Really only hear it when the truck is warm and at idle or very slow speeds and not all the time. Wish there was a real explanation. These trucks have a ton of emissions related sensors, valves and such. I never had a problem with my duramax in this regard and I imagine I wont with this truck either.
