Anyone else thinking of going back to a 6.4?

Hey guys, just throwing it out there. I went from an H&S tuned/deleted 08 6.4 to an H&S tuned/deleted 12 6.7 Am I crazy for wanting my 6.4 back?

I thought after a month of driving it (mixed conditions) I would start to like it better. The truck just seems like a slouch, and the 6 speed is always hunting for gears. The turbo lag is almost unbearable. Stock for stock the 6.7 seemed very strong, but tuned I'm completely unimpressed. My 6.4 will pull circles around this thing. MPG is way down from the 6.4 as well. I'm not trying to sound like a complainer, I guess I'm just disappointed.

Am I the only one, or have others experienced similar results??

I haven't owned a 6.4 but I know what you mean about the trans hunting and weird shift hesitations. I have also noticed a little more turbo lag then other diesel P/U's I've owned although that doesn't concern me as much as the trans quirks. I heard their is a TSB and remap which is supposed to improve that trans issue. I hope to get mine in soon.

I personally don't have 6.7 but have a few friends with them and a couple went from 6.4's to them. They have no complaints and love them. Me on the other hand would like to upgrade to a 6.4

I will have to agree with you on the tuned 6.4 compared to the 6.7. The reason I sold my 6.4 was for the 100k ESP. in stock form the 6.7 has bad turbo lag and the tranny is the worst, Wish FORD could cut a deal with Allison as they are bulletproof. Overall, I have seen mostly positive reviews on the 6.7 and I have not heard of any head gasket failures or other big issues. I will be keeping mine as I just bought my 2nd 6.7... 3 weeks and 5500 miles!

OP, it sounds like something is wrong with your 6.7.

Didn't H&S put 800 to the tires through the stock 6R140? I haven't had a single issue with my tranny, and I have always thought the Allison's were overhyped. 500 RWHP and they need a rebuild.

Yes H&S got mid 800's before the tranny started slipping. And to all you 6.7 haters, the rods were fine.

800+ HP and 1700+ ft lbs before the STOCK transmission slipped the converter. Pretty sure the Duramax smoked the Allison at 568 HP IIRC
