Twinjracing, search this forum for threads on this, there is a wealth of information that will be helpful. I have roughly 12,300 miles on mine and the message appeared. With the help of this forum, I was able to determine exactly what needed to be done, myself. All depends on your preference on maintaining your truck, but if you're like me, I do as much as I'm capable.
Did mine last night, with the 2 kits from Rotunda (...0001 and ...0008 I believe). The biggest PITA was extracting coolant from the petc*ck at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side, for the nitrite and freeze point test (kit 0001). This is the drain valve for the secondary cooling system. Not sure what the engineers were thinking on that one. The drain valve on the drivers side is much easier. Also, since this is the first time I've done this, the chart provided to compare your test strip against (for the nitrite test), could have provided more detail/explanation on how to interpret/match my results against said chart. Mine showed no color at all, which means NO NITRITES, which is where you want to be on BOTH cooling systems.
Again, search this forum, and hopefully find the information you need. It really isn't a bad DIY maintenance item.
