New truck...A few Questions

Picked up a 2013 XLT Crewcab FX4 last week. The next day I took it on vacation and I already have 1300 miles on it. So far it's great. Good ride and good mileage.

My questions are maintenance related. What oil are you guys running. I get my first change for free from the dealer but I'll do my own after that. I'm think of running the Rotella T5 10W-30. According to the diesel supplement in the owners manual that should be acceptable.

My other question is about the coolant check that is required. How involved are these checks and where do you get the kits?

Thanks for the help.

Congrats on your new tuck!
I use motorcraft 10-w-30. The test strips are Ford Rotunda or equivalent. Make sure you test both primary and secondary cooling systems and take samples from the drain valves, not from the Degus bottles.

Thanks for the response. Wish I could get Motorcraft oil somewhere besides the dealership. Their prices are high.

The Motorcraft oil is just a ConocoPhillips oil. It's nothing special. You can buy plenty of other good oils out there.

Yea I'll probably use the Rotella. I can get it fairly cheap at Wal Mart.

I think the T5 10W-30 is semi-synthetic. I think the t6 5W-40 is full synthetic. I'm leaning towards the T5 right now but I'm not sure yet.
