Most of the tire website will show what the recommended rim width is for any size of tire.
If you go a wider tire than the recommended, You are essentially squeezing the tire. To a certain point this is not a probably, But it really depends on how you use the truck.
If you load the truck up heavy, towing heavy trailers, campers or other loads in the bed. A oversized tire on too narrow of a rim will wear excessively fast. If you re ok with fast tread wear, Knock your self out.
If you run empty and never tow, it's not near the problem.
Just check the manufactures tire website and they give the ranges of what rims will work.
