Change oil or not

I just bought a 2012 and have 1800 mile on it already going on a 800 mile round trip pulling a 36 ft camper. Service dept said ford doesnt use breakin oil anymore. Is this true? Should I change it or wait till we get back from trip

I have always changed a new cars oil by 1,000 miles. With a new engine you will have metal in the oil from the rings and bearings breaking in. That is what I have always done with every new car I have owned, even tho the dealer looks at me like I'm crazy when I bring the vehicle in that early.

It wouldn't matter what you choose to do. Does it need it for the trip? No,it could wait till you get back, but if it makes you feel better then change it before. you sure ain't going to hurt anything

Good idea to get it done soon. There are still plenty of manufacturing contaminants left in the engine as it ships from the factory. It's best to do an early oil change (50-100 miles) to get the initial stuff out, and then another oil change at around 1,000 - 1,500 miles to get the rest of the embedded stuff out. Cheap insurance!

I'm having my done at 3500 miles and then every 5K. my thinking is by 3500 miles all the metal shavings and break-in materials will be in the oil and ready to be flushed. I will also change the oil filter and start fresh! Then fuel filters every 10K, air filters at 15K along with a complete coolant test of both systems which I plan to do myself. I have not been adding any kind of cetane booster as I sea no need at this point to do so. Hope this helps.
