Check coolant additive light?

This light came on at 12,000 miles. We will see what's going on in a few.

Coolant additive

Mine came on at around 15k, since I have serviced myself I knew nothing was topped off or anything so I just reset through the command center on the dashboard. However 3 weeks later I saw antifreeze in the driveway. I ended up replacing the whole radiator due to a crack in the lower right side where the nozzle to empty is. Have no idea if the two are related or just a coincidence.

Same thing with mine. It comes on automatically at 12-15 thousand miles to remind you to test the coolant. I went to dealer to see if they had test kits and they don't. They told me to just reset it.

you can either reset it in the computer or take it to the dealership and have the coolant check. They only charged me for the strips, and I have a record of it being checked for warranty if needed. Oh yea, they didn't find anything on mine. It had around 14000 miles on it. Do a search on here for more of the fine details of the system and reasons for the light. Good luck

Victor

After the dealership looking at my truck and testing it. They said that everything was fine and tested normal. They just reset it and sent me out the door. They did say that it was normal for the light to come on so that it cod be checked. Don't know why ford has to make the coolant system so tricky.

Thanks for the responses.

That's strange, link works on my computer but on my phone it goes to something about adding a photo gallery from back in 2005.

This is nothing new.
On the 7.3L engines you needed to test and add the FW-16 additive
On the 6.0L and 6.4L you needed to test and add the VC-8 additive
On the 6.7L you need to test and add the VC-12 additive.

The additives have changed, as the engine blocks have changed and what needs to be protected has changed.

The new Specialty Orange coolant is a new World Wide standard coolant for Ford, that in time will become the standard coolant used on all Ford engine around the world. It is not backward compatible with older Ford engines. So as Ford designs new engines, it is designing them work with this new coolant.

Checking it every 13,000 to 15,000 miles is not that big a deal.
