Amsoil Oil

What's your guys take on Amsoil 5w40 or Blue Flame? I've been using Mobil 1 since day one and i'm now at 30,000 on the truck.

Thinking about making a switch.

I'd stay with the proven Mobil 1. I'm sure there will be an Amsoil rep chiming in soon

I think it is just another brand of premium oil. I use Shell Rotella in mine but in all my previous performance gas vehicles I ran Mobile 1, Amsoil, and Royal Purple. They are all premium synthetic oils.

My opinion...

Amsoil and Royal Purple seem to be for people who obsess with their engine oils. Being in the diesel scene for the last 10 years or so, everyone who uses Amsoil or Royal Purple seem to preach about it. They are also the people who are sending off oil samples for analysis.

That being said, I run whatever the dealer puts in or Rotella. To me, engine oils these days are superb and there is no need for these fancy synthetics. Hot shot drivers and most fleet trucks use regular old oil by the manufacturer specs. They run hundreds of thousands of miles on trucks without major issues. Sure some trucks have issues but they are generally not due to oil selection.

I struggle back and forth on this topic but almost every OTR driver I talk to runs standard grade oil and yet they rack up more miles than we ever will. Most are religious about maintenance but if it's good enough for them than why not me too?

I stick with products I can get easily and don't have to hunt for and become a Member to get a better price

I run T 6 but was thinking about trying Delo syn

if there was an easy way to pick up Amsoil I might try it

your going to hear that our non Fancy synthetics are not a true syn but actually DINO modified oils unlike Amsoil

but I have no problem with that Mobil 1 was a true syn a long time ago but chose to keep it affordable like the rest of the "Synthetics " minus a select few

Fancy oils

I didn't quite get that Mobil 1 isn't a fancy oil like Amsoil or Royal Purple. All three are 100% synthetic and only differ in the base stocks they use for production. Amsoil came out in 1972 with a 25k oil change interval with warranty which still stands today (for gas engines), Mobil 1 came out in 1974 with a 25k oil change without a warranty but changed to the Mfg. recommendation shortly after (pressure from the industry probably), Royal Purple came out in 1986 with factory recommended change intervals. They are all excellent oils with Mobil 1 probably being the easiest to find (Walmart). Amsoil, which I have used for 15 yrs in everything I own is only cost effective if you are a dealer or preferred customer using the extended change intervals and can buy it at cost but freight kills you. Make your own choices, you can't go wrong with any of them. It's also a given that 100% synthetic does reduce engine wear and increases mileage (slightly).
