What part of the country are you in? 5w40 is probably the most preferred and will make the motor start easier and run a little smoother. If you're in a cold climate though with extreme lows, you should probably stick with what you have right now. Rotella T6 is what I use if you go with 5w.

i live in louisiana. down here the lowest it usually gets is in the 40-50s and it doesnt stay there long. our weather changes day to day. sometimes we get in the 20s but it doesnt really get colder than that.

I use 15W-40 (Castrol Tection) here in Houston.

I use 10w-30 since day 1 here in Ohio and haven't had any issues yet.

If you're in Louisiana, I'd run 5w40 all year long. You have the same climate as me.

Rotella T-5 10-30. If I start doing some heavy towing i'll use the T-6 5-40.

5W40 is for colder climates. Not an issue in LA. Stick with 15W40 if you need a 40W.

^^ agree...no reason to have a large-spread multi-grade like 5W-40 unless your conditions require it...

Rotella T 15-40
