911, Help!! Crews are being stranded in -40 temps, Please help.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for taking time to check this out and to help me with this situation. I am new to this site and I am working on filling out my profile so please dont spam me for not doing so yet. This issue takes priority over everything else. Now to the point. I can't tell anyone where I work or who I work for, but let me say its freaking cold here. We are having issues with our 6.7 powerstrokes shutting down in the middle of nowhere. From what I can figure out its probably an emissions related shut down from the DPF. The crews are telling me that a "pull over safely" light comes on and then their trucks just die and won't start again. Our trucks idle a lot and never get over about 45 mph and never tow a load. Is there a DPF delete kit that can be installed with a programmer that will solve this problem for us? I am in the process of looking but right now I wanted to ask everyone for their input in solving this problem ASAP. Thanks again! M |

you prob need to do a regen it sorta sounds like your trucks are not able to do and finish a regen and are needing dealer manual regen
or you are out of def fluid / or its freezing deleting it kinda hard right now thanks to the government making this country a dictatorship and telling us what we can and can not buy |

Sounds like you've correctly identified the problem based on what you've described. You can delete but you need to find a source...heard they're hard to come by right now.
Try searching for Mini Maxx / DPF Delete...here's one I just pulled up: DPF DELETE KITS/PACKAGES - 2008-2010 Ford Powerstroke 6.4 |

Tell the boys to get out on the Hwy and run it hard for about 20-30 minutes. You have to clean the DPF or you will have problems.

First of all, I'd be right on the phone to Ford and have one of their regional engineers get involved to solve this problem. If they can not solve it,. Then possible the Delete may be your solution.because it sounds like one of your sensors is shuting stuff down.
Deletes are still available if you search around H&S has stopped production of their product, But the distributors stocked up before hand and will continue to sell until they run out of inventory. Especially those in Canada where the EPA was not pressuring them like the USA. Last edited by Painted Horse; 12-26-2012 at 07:12 AM. |

If you're just ferrying from camp to a rig on lease roads and constantly shuffling crews around its hard to just rip out onto the highway

People are missing the point. It's not high speed but rather high heat that cleans the DPF. Active regen works just as well at 1500 rpm and 30 mph as it does at 1500 rpm and 70 mph. The air flow through the exhaust system does not change because the air flowing past the truck is moving faster.
In fact higher RPMS make it harder for the heat to climb, because the excess air flow pushes more cooling air through the system. You could just as easily clean the DPF out while bouncing down a gravel road in 2nd gear as you can ripping down any hiway. It's more about keeping the truck running and letting the regen finish what is starts. |

The load on the motor is significantly higher running down the highway at 1500 RPM's than it is at low speeds.

is there not a regen button in these trucks like in internationals big rigs?

no unfortunately, and to the OP if the trucks are trim level XL or XLT in park with the emergency brake applied and at least a quarter tank of fuel you should be able to perform an operator commanded regen. IF not being able to regen while driving is your problem this should solve it. Without more information of whats happening its hard to say if the DPF is clogging and shutting them down or if it is another problem causing them to shut down. Are there any DTC's after they shut down? Any logged codes or info.?
