Quiet 6.7

Just a general discussion question about the sound of the 6.7L. I really liked the stock sound of the 6.7 and was afraid I would ruin the harmony of the stock exhaust, etc. Even fully deleted with a straight pipe all the way back it still sounds pretty refined and I like the swooshing sound. So, other than the turbo running interference in the exhaust, what makes it so quiet?

Jim

Just finished my truck today. I love it. Sounds like a REAL DIESEL now!

Turbo's do a good job to quiet/filter the sound.

I have a '07 Porsche Turbo. I removed the stock exhaust & installed a Tubi Race Exhaust with NO CATS. And it's not that loud as one may think. WOT it's a animal but being twin turbo it's very refined. Taking CATS off a Mustang OR Vette, now that's a different story...

Funny you say that. It sounds different at every RPM Range.

Idle = Cummins
Above Idle-1,200= 6.0L (Turbo Whistle)
1,200-2,000= 6.7L (Mixture of everything)
2,200+= Chevy V8 Gasser/5.0Mustang

That's my Best discreption...Others can chime in and add.

5" Flo-Pro w/Muffler.

The 6.7 has new direct injection technology which injects diesel multiple times during a single combustion cycle to reduce the diesel "rattle"

Like mentioned above the pilot injection makes the motor up front sound quiet. But the exhaust loudness has to do with turbo. And im pretty sure from the front our stock 6.7 sounds more like a diesel than my deleted 6.4. That is one thing I can't stand about my 6.4. I had one guy tell me to delete the dpf and muffler so that its louder when it was already deleted

In one of Ford's videos debuting the 6.7 they demonstrated turning on and off the Pilot injection, I wonder if this could be done aftermarket?

Yes I recall that. Sounded like a 7.3L without Pilot Injection.
