Cab and Chassis detuned
I upgraded my 05 F550 with the 6.0 this spring to the new F450 with the 6.7 this spring with the promise of more power, fuel milage, comfort etc. While the comfort is there I felt the truck had no power and I was getting half the milage as my 6.0. I took it to the dealer and they informed me the cab and chassis are detuned so people don't haul too much. Needless to say I was not thrilled as this is why I bought a 450. Has anyone else even heard of this and is there anyway to correct this with out voiding the warranty.

I have been battling this unexpected surprise myself, Spoke to several different dealers, watched the DVDs, and most salesmen recommended ordering C&C without themselves knowing it was detuned.
After much pursuit I still have a disappointing, and even dangerous at times truck. I have even found a wrecked truck to transfer parts (Turbo, Throttle Plate), once it gets out of warranty. but this is so uncalled for, had I only known beforehand, I would have bought a Pickup, then removed the bed. The latest reason I have heard is they expect these trucks to work harder, therefore to satisfy our government, they have tuned for emissions rather than power. |

yup, we bought ours with the saleman that sells us all our trucks saying we will fall in love with the new 6.7. the truck towes like an animal but its the first truck we have had with 4.30 gears so we cant compare apple to apples with our 6.0. Not only did they detune for emissions, but cab and chassis are made for work so they know these truck will get the most abuse. so to prevent motor issues they detune them to prevent damage to the engine with us working them harder. we have over $70K in our 2012 F450 and if we would have know this we would have spent the extra to get the pickup, and not have ugly black textured fenders on the front. not to mention the breaks have sounded like a school bus screaching to a hault since 1000 miles, dealer says its normal

Our 450 dump truck has turbo lag like crazy pulling out empty or loaded. My dads 450 pickup on the other hand will get up and go damn fast. Both 6.7s

Any ideas out there on how to fix the problem?

Exactly why I cancelled my order for 2 new F550's at the beginning of this year. SO it's either stay with the trucks I've got, or go to dodge...I won't park a dodge in my yard.

The C&C trucks are detuned due to duty cycle.. and IMHO, they are pretty much a pathetic excuse for an engine... 5.88 mpg is just wrong....

My biggest gripe is before I bought mine I did plenty of research on the 6.7, but at that time there wasn't much revealed about the detuning. I bought it totally unaware there were two separate models. All the salesmen pushed the hp and tq numbers unaware themselves. These trucks should wear a completely different Badge on their door. I should mention, the rest of the truck has done nothing but impress me. I feel with the engine I thought I was buying, I would probably be overjoyed. |

These trucks should wear a completely different Badge on their door. QUOTE] Hahaha.. most salesmen and half the service departments STILL dont know there is a difference... Some of them still believe that Ford owns Cummins.. I have thought about putting a sticker on the back of my F550 that says, "Warning, Do not plan on merging with traffic based upon the idea that I can accellerate... We will BOTH be calling the insurance company!" I still cannot believe Ford went to production with a Medium Duty class C&C truck that does not have an available exhaust brake!. |

Just an Update, My Truck passed 100K, so I went ahead and tuned and deleted without changing Turbos and the difference is amazing. These C&C trucks do have the ability to perform, it just has to be unleashed.
I have put 3K since deleting and mileage has gone from 6.7 to 8.3 mpg. Can't expect much better with the 4.30 gear and the speed on Interstate. It is now safe to drive, and can merge with traffic. I tried the Performance setting one time, (without trailer) and it was Radical. Tow Mode is plenty for me, I have a Street Rod for playing. |
