Its about a gallon every 1000 miles. Most people I know top it off when they do their oil change. (5K mile oil changes BTW)

And it's possible Your tank wasn't topped off to begin with...

I topped my tank off at 1000 miles, about 2.5 gallons. At the oil chage, 5000 miles, I topped it off again. Just over 2.5 gallons, so, it probably wasn't full at the beginning. It will vary with your style of driving. Also, remember the tank has a heater, not the fill neck. So, if you live in the cold country, just add 2.5 gallons and go.

Towing a heavy trailer will change things dramatically!!
I pulled my 5er from central Texas to Colorado & back, about 1700 miles, and it burned nearly a full tank. We were directly into the wind a lot, and Raton pass was quite a long hard pull too. Mark |

I've heard from several sources that they don't fill the DEF tank completly full from the factory. Probably only 1/2 to 3/4 full from the factory. I'm at 5600 miles now and mine says that its under half full. I will just keep going until it tells me to put more in.

When i bought mine new (with 25 miles on it) I had the refill DEF message at 300miles. I just topped off my tank this past weekend and used a half of box of BLUE DEF and i just clicked 6000 today. So I guess take that for what its worth.

I used my truck to tow and I'm getting about 1000-1200 miles per gallon of DEF. If you don't use your truck for what it is intended for, you will use far less DEF.
