Just got beat!

I just lost my first truck drag race. 2005 or so dodge quad cab 5.9, He Obviously had a straight pipe (sound and smoke). Against my stock 6.7 3.55 gears.

Off the line I broke traction for a second or two. And then again when it shifted into second gear. Anyway he only had a truck length on me when we let off at about 60. He had a clean launch, no idea if he was in 4x4 or not.

So is there anything I can do, that is not hard on the truck, but will help with traction? Mainly wondering about the ELRD...

Put it in 4 wheel drive, that will help traction.

Careful launching in four wheel drive! Is beating a cummapart worth more then your drivetrain? I'm sure you're still under warranty but if you're in any way like me and your truck is your daily driver just be careful

But being serious, tell him you want to race with stock tuning. You will most likely win.

He would be laughed out of the state with a question like that, but it's probably his only choice unless he's ready to cut loose on some cash.
BL, it boils down to this. If you don't want to lose to most trucks on the street, buy some parts and get after it. There are some nice parts coming out now that will lay down a working foundation for more parts to follow.

I don't race all the time, this was the first time someone egged me on at a red light. If I can lock up the rear I would be more incline to do that, rather then 4x4.

It's still pretty cool when you can have traction problems with a stock truck.
I remember my old 7.3L couldn't muster enough power to break traction on ice...
Diesel has come a long way.

Seriously? You're aware that everyone who races their trucks at the track, especially the big hp guys all launch in 4wd right? Honestly, bad advice is worse than no advice.

Won't the torque management system on a stock 6.7 not let you do a boosted launch?
