2012 ford factory gooseneck ball
I am buying a f250 next week and it has the holes in the bed for a gooseneck ball from ford. Are they reliable? How do they work? The guy at the dealership informed me that you just put the ball in and it automatically locks. He also told me that I had to buy the ball and the safety chain connecters.
Just wanted some thoughts on the factory gooseneck setup. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using AG Free |

my truck came with the 5th wheel prep package as well. i did not have to buy the ball or safety chain connectors. there were in a box laying in my back floorboard when i pulled off the lot. i have used it several times. havent had any issues with it. i love how you can remove it whenever you want if you are hauling stuff in the bed.

Thanks for the response. It sounds like the salesman is trying to pull a fast one on me telling me I have to buy the ball.
How do you keep it from being stolen? How do you lock it in? Thanks for the help. This is going to be my first ford diesel. Sent from my iPhone using AG Free |

The prep package doesn't come with the ball. So...if you do get it without ordering it...I believe that is a mistake. The ball is extra (like...really...you spend 50K-60K and the SUPERDUTY should come with at least ONE BALL - if not TWO LOL)!
I have the prep package...ball is extra. You can buy cheaper searching online vs through Ford dealer unless they will price match or discount. |

Ok thanks.
That is kinda sad that they cannot throw a ball in for the price of these new trucks. I did make them throw a spray in bed liner in. Sent from my iPhone using AG Free |

When I bought my new truck a few weeks ago one of the things I really searched for was the factory gooseneck prep. I am very happy with it. It works as well as the B&W hitches I have in other trucks. The dealership will sell you the ball and tow hooks for around 250 bucks. My dealership threw them in at no cost.
