Oil Additive helps oil cooling
Anyone ever used a product called "Cool-X" ? It uses nano particle technology which provides for increased thermal conductivity of engine oil. Supposed to drop oil temp by 20 F

Sounds like snake oil. Thermal conductivity is directly related to a substance's electric conductivity, and oil (and all hydrocarbons for that fact) is non-polar molecules meaning.... They do not support ionization (like salt in water) aka dissolving something in them to change their thermal and conductive properties, etc.
Since engine oil has a specific heat index of about half of water, I'm curious why anyone would seek a product that supposedly lowers that value? FYI specific heat index is here: Liquids and Fluids - Specific Heats Are you having oil coking issues? Are your oil temps too high? The 6.7L PSD has a fairly robust oil cooling package in stock form, so I'm curious why someone would want this? If you are having oil issues the problem is not going to be solved by an oil additive? Do you have money burning a hole in your pocket or something? |

Whoa...sport. Calm down. I wouldn't want you to have a stroke now. Go take a Xanax, and sip a cold beer....you'll feel better.
Nope, no money burning at all around me. At $35 a bottle when it would take three bottles for a 6.7, it just doesn't make sense. I can use a high quality synthetic for much less money. I was only interested in what others thought of the technology. I don't believe it's snake oil, but neither do I think it's cost effective I sure didn't mean to ruffle your feathers there,... sport. Have a nice day now. K |

Very nice condescension there...sport. Apparently, science and chemistry are not your strong points. I could tell most of that was over your head. Let me know if you need me to teach you how to put your socks on the right way. |
