locking hubs

I have a 4wd '11 F250 with 5k miles. Just noticed that the hubs were locked and not set to auto. Manual recomends auto to improve fuel economy. I set them back to auto. Anyone with experience with locking hubs? Does it matter that they were run this long locked? Does Ford ship them locked from the factory? Just curious. Thanks.

I don't imagine they're normally shipped from the factory locked, but its not going to hurt anything running locked for 5k.

maybe a little wear on the front end not really not anything to worry about.
