3.73 w/ e locker?
My order on my new truck goes in tomorrow, the subject of the gearing came up. On the dealers option website it said the 3.73 gears with the e locker were available on the F350 pickup. When I had looked at Fords site, build your own, "Did not" show this as an option. It shows it available on a chassis cab but not the pickups. Does anyone know if this an option? I would prefer the 3.73's over the 3.55 gears. This is what I run now and I like this set up for towing.

How often/much do you tow? The 3.55 gears should be plenty. I have no problem getting 10K+ moving with them. If had to do it again I would get 3.55 with the LS vice e locker. Too much power only going to one tire when not locked up.

I haven't checked recently...but the 3.73 used to be the standard gears for the F 350 DRW. When I checked, before I purchased my F 350 SRW, the gears offered were up to the 3.55. Guess it depends on if you want DRW or SRW.

Thanks guys for your comments. I tow a 21' bassboat w/ 250 horse engine just about every weekend. I tow now with a 2004 f250 srw that has 3.73 gears. I like the slow take off coming up a slimy launch ramp. I haven't heard from the dealer yet, so I'm still not sure if it's even available on the srw.

Keep in mind that the 1st gear in the new trans is much lower than the one in your '04. Empty my truck will start from a dead stop in 3rd. I wish I could lock out 1st whenever the truck is empty.
