help on new truck
All, Looking for thoughts from people that do this stuff more than I do.
I currently have an 08 F450 that I use to pull my boat, which is a 34' cruiser. I only pull it about twice a year maybe about 60 miles or so each way, and the 450 toys with it. I am looking to down size as the rest of the year it is just burning up fuel driving it empty. the boat and trailer are probably around 14 to 15000 pounds. the trailer is new with electric over hydraulic brakes on two of the three axles. There is not much tongue weight as most of the weight of the boat is in the rear. I think i can probably down size to a 250 or 350 SRW, from the ford site, it looks like the 250 and 350 SRW have the same towing capacity. Looking for opinions on whether you think I can go to the 250 or 350 SRW or if you think I need to stick with the 350 DRW. Also, what is the advantage of the 350 SRW if they both seem to have the same capacity? Thanks for you suggestions and help |

You will be fine with a F250 SRW. The only advantage of the 350 is a different axle ratio and higher blocks in the back to help reduce squatting from heavy loads. Honestly if your only towing twice a year their is no reason for anything bigger than a 250 Even if you are pulling 15K. These trucks can pull way more than what their rated for its just a matter of stopping. With the TBC and good breaks their is no reason to worry.

...for a few extra dollars you can have a F-350 srw that has heavier duty brakes, rear end, and no real change in ride or handling... and there are fewer srw F 350's, and an abundance of F 250s which I believe makes them a little more valuable at trade in if not trashed. My .03 cents...
