Manual Has warning about Tune??

I took delivery of my 2012 F450 a couple of days ago. I traded in my 04 6.0 for this truck.
I read the manual - that is the book that comes with the truck. Most people I know do not read it. Ok, I read in the manual that it was clearly noted that if the owner of the vehicle decides to tune the truck, the computer will keep a memory of the tune -even if the tune is removed. Is this true? Has anyone had a tune in there truck, then went to the dealer and they approach you about a tune that was in the computer?

Thanks

Yes....that's the word on the street. Evidently, if the dealer or Ford suspects tuning, they need to interogate the ecm...maybe even the tcm...and they will find evidence of changes to the software or parameters. I don't think they can find the evidence as easily with a piggy back unit...but for the downloading ones..yes.

Guess you have to decide what you want out of the truck and if you're willing to pay to play if something breaks? It's a very personal choice...which one is right is up to you.

We had a trailblazer ss that would tell if a programmer had been on it. What we did was buy a new ecm and tcm and program that one and keep our stock one for warranty work. Can you do this with the 2011+ 6.7?

Sucks if you buy the truck used in a year or two and it was tuned and you never knew...

I guess the good thing is, if your buying a truck with quite a bit of warranty left on the engine and you want to be sure it was never tuned you could have the dealer check it prior to making your purchase.

I talked with Superchips on this. And they said that Ford has put that statement in there for over 10 years. And to this day there is nothing that shows that the ECU was reprogramed. As long as it was put back to stock before.
