Tailgate step
My truck did not come with the nifty tailgate step and bar. Does anyone know if that can be added to the existing tailgate? I don't imagine they use 2 seperate tailgates but who knows? It looks to me like you could just buy a new tailgate cap with the step and a new plastic cover that houses the bar? Anyone know for sure or have any idea on price?

I highly doubt you could add it to a tailgate. There looks to be more to it than that.

I'd like to get rid of my step and bar. Pain in the *** having it.

I don't care for the silly handle and what it does to the tailgate not being flat, but I do like the step.

Well, somebody pointed out to me how the handle open position can be a pretty good gas tank (like a 5 gal.) corral with the tailgate shut. It gives a nice little slot on the side that way.

You cannot add a step to an existing tailgate. The guts are completely different. I like the gas can corral idea! Gonna have to use that..

I ditched my step tailgate just for the fact that I never use it and the tailgate isn't flat. What I wouldn't mind though is a hybrid tailgate, has the step but the flat surface with no handle. Too much stuff gets caught on that plastic cover.

There is a thread about a guy that removed the handle and replaced with the flat surface of a regular tailgate. Its in the 6.4 section somewhere.
