Ford's 4X4
Hey all, just wondering if its just me or if someone has some input for this. Not really a problem just not sure why its different. Every ford truck that I have had in the last 6-8 years 4x4 operates the same. Electronic shift and it engages and works fine, but if you actually go out and flip the hubs from Auto to Manual the truck will chew like a tractor. I definately do not see the same 4x4 action when the hubs are auto to manual. Anyone know why this is. I know everyone I have talked to all the trucks are the same, just dont know why.
Also does anyone have any input on operating 4x4 with the electronic diff lock. Will it hurt anything, negate any effects when operating both. Thanks. |

I haven't noticed any difference on mine.

Maybe your front hubs are not automatically engaging.

The problem is your auto locking hubs may not be working. So when you lock the hubs in you are getting real 4wd.
No you will not hurt anything if you add a selectable locker like an E-locker or Air Locker to the diff. But it will be harder to steer with the locker engaged. |

I do not believe it is a hub problem. It operates the same as on my last 3 trucks, I have 4 buddies with fords from 2006-2011 and theirs are the same. When hub is in auto and you shift the truck in 4x4 the 4x4 definately works but it seems like not everything is locked in properly. If you throw the hubs in manual the trucks seem to chew alot better. Maybe its just me but I do notice a definately difference on the fords.
As for the E-locker my 2011 has it installed from factory, I am just curious if the E-locker and 4x4 can be operated at the same time or if problems may occur. Thanks again |
