Spare key replacment

I don't know why, but I seem to always forget where my spare keys are. At times they pop up and I say to myself, "ahh that's where I put that" then proceed to forget where it is months later. Does anyone know where is the best place to get a spare key with the remote start? The dealer wants $399.

I bought my spare key from my dealer and I sure don't remember it costing that much. I was thinking it cost me around 100.00 but I could be wrong. You should check with another dealer to make sure of the price.

I had the key made, cut and programmed as part of the original deal when I took delivery of the truck. The hard part is to find someplace to conceal such a large key on your vehicle. My price could have been better because it was part of the original purchase to have 3 keys with the truck. It only took the tech a moment to program the extra key.

Humm, ok I'm going to try a different dealer. The told me 2 hours to program the key.

Its been 8 months but if I remember correctly they had to have all of the keys when they did the programming. 2 hours sounds like way too much time involved.

if you have 2 programmed keys, you can program the 3rd key yourself with your truck, a new plain key w/o lock/unlock is 30ish dollars /w cut. Its in the owners manual to do the programming

I actually have recent first hand expirence of this mishap on the first day of ownership my key was stolen from my extended stay hotel which made for the worst night of sleep worrieying about who in the hotel has my $60,000 key.

On to the pricing. I paid $185.00 for the key from the dealer and the reprogramming was $40. $235.00 out the door and once the truck was pulled into the bay it only took 30 mins. I watched as the tech did it. Very quick and easy.

Hope that helps. $399 is way too much.

I keep mine in the truck and use the keyless entry to get in. Just find a place and hook it up or under something if your worried about someone breaking in and finding it in the console.
