High Oil Temp??

I'm just curious. When should I be alarmed at the oil temp. Couple weekends ago pulling 18k on I-15 through Nevada it got pretty hot. Tranny dropped to 4th doing 70mph pulling a grade and I was just watching the oil temp go up, and up, and up. Hit 242 degrees right as I crested the top. All the other gauges were fine. Just wondering if anybody has seen these kinds of temps or not.

wow thats hot. What were the coolant temps reading? Killer truck by the way!

Exterior: 08 Exterior Clone, 22.5's
Engine Mods: GTP38R WW2, 5 inch exhaust,T500, 6637, TW tunes,DI Up pipes, 6.7 fuel pump fuel system.
Trans Mods: 6.0 trans cooler, JW Valve body,Billet triple disc converter.
Sound Mods: 7" flip out tv, 3-way speakers all around, 12" sub, 500 watt amp.
Misc:dieselsite coolant filter, max ac assist, BRV, IHD,gauges, CCV

Next up power rear window

You can see the coolant temp right above it in the picture, along with the trans temp. For some reason Ford decided not to have the ability to see actual coolant temp alongside oil temp. But the gauge was reading normal. So you guys think I should bring it in? It immediately dropped back to 205 when I got over the top. I don't know if I should worry or not.

If it dosen't do it again then I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't make a habbit of it.

What oil weight are you running.....I pull a small trailer ....I run 5W-40 Rotella T6 syn oil.
There was one time that my oil temp got to 215.....every so often pulling the trailer I will check the oil temp....keep us informed....

Running Rotella 15W-40. This was by no means a "small" trailer, it also wasn't at it maximum GCWR. I'll let you all know what the dealer tells me.

thats just a dummy coolant gauge too though, it might not even move till its tooo late

We saw 223 when pulling our 13,000lb fifth wheel up a long 6% grade in PA but not that high.
