Could I build a cheaper F250 instead of an off the lot?
I want a XL super cab with the 6.7, and 4x4. I only want power options, cloth seating and 40, 20, 40 seats. Rubber floors if possible, I want a basic work truck, I don't need sync or nav, I have aftermarket units if I want and my phone is worlds better navigation. I don't need heated/cooled seats etc Integrated trailer brake controller as well, but beyond that I am set.
I found some trucks on the lot for 41k, but I think I can squeeze out some savings if I lose the fluff and build my own. Is this at all possible? I have never built a vehicle, always found one on the lot, but I want a work truck, not a luxury truck. However, I am hitting 41k on the Ford builder, but I am not sure if it lets me cut the fat and remove amenities. Last edited by 4x4Robert; 05-06-2011 at 02:27 PM. |

Thats what i did with my 6.0. I did not want any chrome on the truck so i ordered an XL , added in bucket seats, air, tilt , cruise, diesel all for 28k then threw $$$ at it afterward to my liking.
However, with the price of fuel right now there are alot of loaded trucks sitting on dealer lots that can be haggled on. |

best option is goto ur dealer have them plugin ur options u want and see if can find the truck that can be driven to them? I did that for my 05, truck was up in dallas and only had to wait 2 days for it. other than getting it with like 300miles versus 2 it was a much better option than waiting for one to be built. For ur truck ur dealer may have mainly creature comforts in all their trucks you dont want, another dealer within 500miles may carry more of the 'work truck' because of local demand, etc. gives you something to do versus waitin on a truck to be built.

I am pretty simplistic when it comes to work trucks, diesel, 4x4 supercab, cloth is fine a long with rubber floors. I did the whole manual window/locks and that is a pita reaching across all my equipment that stays in the cab with me. I would even like a manual option, but I am not sure if the new trucks come in standard. If the price was right I -might- be able to pay a tad extra for sync as I loved it when I used it in my fathers truck. However, I could definitely live without it. |

That's a great plan.

Also try searching you area for a place that sells Cab and Chassis trucks. They'll often order in a few of the ones you're looking for. My 08 was built just like that. I added the stuff I wanted. Now that I've got the new one with everything on it, I couldn't imagine going back. Good luck.

I got my 11 250 XL CC 4x4 for 38500 and it has cloth with rubber flooring, FX4, locking diff, sync, power windows, brake controller, chrome bumpers. Sticker was 47k and change. Can't be happier! Put in some goodies after purchase. Chrome grille, CAI, tint, and remote start($167). Cool thing is the remote start turns on ac or heater depending on weather and I don't have climate control.

Try adding the camper package to your build and see what it does for the price. When I was doing my "build your own " I added the camp. pack. and the price dropped $1200.
