DEF
Is there a difference in DEF fluid? The Ford dealer said it is about $7 a gallon and theirs is better than the rest. Meijer has it for $5 something and I heard you can buy it at the "Pilot" truck stops for $2 something a gallon. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Just curious on how long it lasts?

When I picked up my truck the dealership said the owner had one. They said they topped off the DEF at the first oil change and it took 2.5 gallons.

How many miles was that? Dealer told me first oil change is 5k.

From what I've read its about a 1 year shelf life

I just wondering if the cheap stuff is as good as the expensive because there is a lot of difference between high and low depending where you buy it.

It's all the same. Run whatever you want. I have been getting mine from Pilot and it's been fine for 25,000 miles. I see no need in spending more than you need to.

Its water and urea ( nitrogen fertilizer). You don't want to stock up for more than 6 months , the urea breaks down into ammonia.

Thanks,
I didn't think it really mattered. Even if it came from a pump it is filtered. Ford naturally will tell you theirs is better than the rest. They also recommended a fuel condition that once again they sell. |
