Fuel mileage
I've put 4200 miles on my F250 shortbed crew cab. The whole time fuel mileage has been droping. Since winter is here I know the colder it is the worse the fuel mileage. I'm trying not ot cry before I'm hurt. I started at 20 plus mpg. Now I'm down to about 17 mpg . Around town in cold weather it's much farther down than that, and this concerns me. Uncertain if this is normal or something is out of whack. I am not unhappy with my F250 so far, just concerned. Also wondering what affect removing the def would have on the system and if it would improve fuel mileage? I'm talking removiing the exhaust entirely and doing a delete all around of the system. What affects could happen from this, other than problems with my waurantee. I like the 6.7 so far, but the accesories on the truck are crazy complicated for an old guy like me. Don't need half of the stuff. Some things I like and some I don't. Love the hands free phone, but why does the voice command come in so loud and the phone not ? Incidently, most of my driving is on 2 lane highway, but I go on 4 lane when I can. I feel more pleased with mileage than displeased, but just leaves me up in the air. The figures on dash readout are off sometimes because the readings for fuel gallons are off , sometimes. Inconsistant information, that seems to come up on the plus side mileage wise for Ford, and haven't found it to ever be on the minus side as a showing for the truck, although it is not consistent with fact. These small things drive me crazy, along with trying to keep the green line above the average the truck is showing. The average shown, is I believe more than it actually is. Deliberate on Fords part? Thoughts on this subject or any part theroff are welcome, both in the form of figures and specualtion.

Ouch! that bite's. What ratio rear axle are you running? Mine is the 3.31 4x4 , hopefully my mileage won't drop that far. In fact, I would be really upset with that fuel mileage. What's the sence in buying a newer truck, when you can buy an older 7.3 and beat that fuel mileage.

I have a 2011 XLT SD CC FX4 ....I have less than 1000 miles, I purchased the truck last Tuesday....I use it as my work truck towing a small trailer weight about 3.5K lbs...I avg 14.5 towing ...and have seen almost 20 driving on the hwy not pulling a trailer. The 2011 6.7....gets almost 4 more miles per gallon than the 08 SD 6.4 I traded in...that had to do with pulling a trailer. So far I'am very please with truck...

I have 7000 miles, I have my own fuel barrel and I am not running winter blend I do put an additive in my tank but only as needed. I think my mileage dropped after reflash.

I have a 2011 with a 3.31 rear-end and I average 18-20 mpg. I just got home last night from a 480 mile trip and got 21 mpg the whole trip. I couldn't be happier with my new truck, It has 1500 miles on it now and I have NOT one complaint!

Winter blend supposedly has more of the good stuff in it to help , but this is just something I've heard before. I put additive in at least every other tank, but I've been using aftermarket additives. I haven't tried Ford's product as it costs about 8$ per tank for treatment. Will use it sooner or later, but for now just the aftermarket stuff as I can get it more easily, and about 1/3 the cost per tank. It does make a difference. My biggest problem with fuel, is I don't have a good source here in town. I know the Murphy's station at Walmart sells substandard gas and diesel as I've tried both. Fuel mileage droped on every vehicle I tried their fuel in, even with additive for the diesel. I have a couple other options in town , otherwise I have to drive 40 to 50 miles to get name brand. I usually try and make my runs out of town to correspond to fill up time.
Have a great Cristmas, Rich |
