New to Diesel with a new 6.7. HELP!!

Hey guys,

Just picked up my first diesel yesterday it's a 2011 F-350 Lariat. It's sick! Just a few questions that I'll list below.

1. Do I have to wait for glow plugs to warm up before starting?
2. what is the best oil to use and would you reccomend doing it yourself?
3. Is there anything i need to know about the "Break in period"?
4. what is the best first step to power gains i.e intake, exhaust, programmer
5. Banks seems to make good stuff how do they rate against other companies?

I know it's alow but any help would be awesome!

Yes wait for the glow plug light to go off. Oil is so subjective, just make sure you change it at the recommended intervals. It's obviously cheaper to change it yourself. Power adders, I'm not sure with the 6.7 who's making them yet, but if it's anything like the 6.4 Spartan will be the way to go. As for break in period, I'd go by what the manual states...

I agree with what topdwg said. I'll add learn your manual - that should help with what weight of oil and intervals. I would recommend 'researching' power adders during your break in period. I would run it stock during that time...at the very least. Also want to keep mind that Ford might frown on adders and give you a hard time if you have to take the truck in during the warranty period. Just some things to be aware of.

When starting just turn key to start and release, truck will do the rest! No glowplug light to worry about.

Enjoy!!! You are supposed to vary the speed during break in, 0-90, rolling 30-70, just the standard things you do ... Not a lot to do, I personally recommend putting at least 20-25 k on before tuning, your mileage will increase as the engine gets broke in, the engine will take on a more relaxed "lope" sound. Diesels take longer to break in, pulling heavy loads is the best way to break in a diesel. Warm it up prior to putting it under load. Pull the Prius's out of your front brake calipers after a freeway run...
