So I keep going back and forth on smoked mirror lights. It still baffles me that a company doesn't and has not made a quality set of these for our trucks yet. I have seen some cheap knock offs, Recons and Anzo lights. Recon seem to be the best out of the ones on the market but they are still pretty crappy and are hit or miss in the life span. My question to you guys are what are you running on your rigs?
You can buy some clear lenses from Klearz, & buy led's from anywhere. You have the option of smoking them however you want, & no stuffing wires in a tight compact space
same thing as recons hmmm. I wouldn't say "well it's the same as Motorcraft but knock off on eBay"
you get what you pay for
I mean hey it's your truck buy what ya like, but idk about that logic
I'm sure they all come from the same Chinese factory. I drilled the circuit board out when mine quit working just big enough for an led to poke threw and lights the lens up just fine.
I had Recons in my mirror prior to my mirror being sideswiped by a garbage truck and then I bought Anzo as that's what was available at the place I went. Didn't have any issues with the Recon lights and haven't had any issues with the Anzo either. I've ran both for over two years. They're all the same. Seems like they're all just rebranded from a large overseas manufacturer and stuffed into different boxes for resale. Lots of people are using lens tint and spraying their OEM lights and using an LED lamp.
I've had good luck with several knock offs when it comes to lights so I'm not afraid to purchase them especially if they save me about half of what recon wanted to charge me. I have look alike recon tail lights that are the exact same quality and look for 1/3 of the price of recons. Makes some people nervous but when you check out what you're buying before you buy, you can get it done.
Yes I know recon quality sucks. It's not worth getting into an argument over
wanna know something funny? I actually have Recon lights besides my 3rd brake light. it's a Recon knock-off lol. I didn't buy it though, I was bamboozled. the guy I bought it from online was selling it as a Recon & when I received it I messaged him & he said "well they're basically the same"
if it doesn't say "X Brand" don't sell it as "X Brand"
that's why I'm a little sore on people saying "same thing" but I get what y'all are saying. Recons are the Yeti of lights. Tons of other brands do close to or the same for 1/2 the price
It sounds like its a loosing battle on these lights. Its crazy that one of the retro fit guys has not come up with something. I like the look of the Recons but do not want to throw $100 into the toilet for a crap shoot. If I want to do that I'd go to the casino. LOL
Exactly why I bought my knock off pair on ebay for $60. The quality of all these lights suck so I figured buy the same thing for close to half price and when the circut board goes out ill drill it out and stick a real LED in there. Having the lens is half the battle.
I have the Recon smoked LED's. I love them. Had them on my '00 SD for about two years, then just swapped them into my 2012 SD that I just picked up. Always have worked great
