I'd like to have a plain key blank that I can stash somewhere under the truck ('16) for accidental lock out protection. I just want to be able to open the door. Is this possible, will the earlier non-chipped keys work? If so, does anyone know a pn offhand?
if u don't already have it, you could always just add the keypad to the drivers door, its available as an add on. no need for buying and programing a remote fob when you can add the key pad and have a code to unlock.
A regular key blank will work, just be ready for the alarm to go off. I think it gives you like 10 seconds to turn the ignition key on after you open the door or it goes off.
I've seen this message already, from forgetting I had a fob to use. I question the fact that my XL has an alarm. Or is it just going to activate the Securilock system?
You have to have keyless entry for the keypad to work. I have keyless entry and the keypad. My XL does not have a alarm. If you want to test it lock the doors with the windows down or sit inside and open the door.
I just took my key to the hardware store and they made me a key. It's not chipped or anything but it works excellent for unlocking the tailgate when the truck is running. Instead of shutting it down and unlocking tailgate, etc. It also works in the doors as well.
Thanks for this, I am tired of shutting the truck off to unlock my tailgate everytime I hook the boat up.
Dummy me never thought of this. I now have a key for it. Had to go to the dealer as Lowes wouldn't cut me a spare. Well worth the $4 the dealer charged me.
You could do the same exact thing with a $15 programmable key off of ebay and it will allow you to drive the truck. You can program it using your two factory keys.
My plan was to zip tie the spare under the truck somewhere out of the way, but most certainly exposed to the elements. I don't think a chipped key would survive that kind of use, that's why I was thinking an old school key for the job. I wasn't planning on spending $60-70 for a keypad, but that may be the better option since my truck does have electric locks and a remote.
I had one made at a locksmith. Has the chip and works Olin both door and ignition just like my FOB, but has no buttons.
He said ford offers it, but the parts guy can't ever find one.
Was $50 not $150 like the FOB
Blah blah blah
